On the same day as Apple release iOS6, they’ve pushed Mountain Lion 10.8.2 out to all of their mac users, and while maybe not as exciting, comes with some new updates I’ve been waiting for.
Facebook integration has now been added to the OS as standard, meaning you can get all the functionality you currently do with Twitter, but now with Facebook too, stuff like updating posts from the notification centre, sharing links directly from Safari and so on.
Messages has seen an update too which is meant to cut back on the lag created by syncing messages. At the moment iMessages seems to have a will of its own when it comes to syncing messages. At the moment when I turn my mac on, I get a notification pop up, and sound, for every iMessage I’ve received during the day. 10.8.2 is hopefully going to cut this back as it recognises how your mobile phone number relates to your Apple ID. Prior to today, syncing was based all on Apple ID accounts, making iMessages that are send to your mobile number act a bit sporadically. Fingers crossed this is a step in the right direction.
Facetime has had a once over too in the same way. Anyone that calls your mobile number should now activate Facetime on your mac / macbook as the number will be associated with the ID on your machine. Why this hasn’t happen already is beyond me.
The download is available now, so click your apple logo in the top left of your screen and get checking for those updates!
